OmniActive Health Technologies Opens New Advanced Research and Development Facility

29 Jun 2012 --- OmniActive Health Technologies has set up its new advanced research and development facility at Biocommons Research Park in Charlottetown. This facility was inaugurated by Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning for the Province of Prince Edward Island on June 27,2012.
OmniActive’s decision to set up this state-of-the-art facility was announced in a joint press conference by Premier Robert Ghiz and OmniActive’s Managing Director Sanjaya Mariwala held at “The Taj Mahal Palace” in Mumbai, India, on February 29, 2012 .
With the completion of the BioCommons facility, OmniActive will have a full fledged research and development facility. The BioCommons Research Park is a 65 acre, 30 million dollar facility which provides companies with valuable technical & business services along with access to technology platforms & equipment. The set-up of this advanced facility at the BioCommons Research Park in Charlottetown, opens up an exciting world of opportunities for OmniActive. Utilizing this advanced facility OmniActive will develop new products and technology based on solid scientific research for their customers.
Speaking on this occasion, the Honorable Gail Shea, Federal Minister of National Revenue said, “Atlantic Canda and PEI in particular has a growing BioScience Community with the infrastructure and people to be a world class leader in this industry. I am extremely excited about the progress OmniActive has made here in a short time, said Minister Shea. They are an excellent fit in the community here and we look forward to them growing from a research factility to full commercialization.”
Prince Edward Island offers highly competitive business costs for investor companies, a positive tax environment, labor rebates, ease of transition in terms of superior infrastructure and excellent business environment for a strong food-agri sector. PEI also has a highly skilled and educated labor pool, strategic infrastructure and convenient access to major markets for businesses.

Commending OmniActive for opening their research facility at PEI, Mr. Rory Francis, Executive Director of the PEI BioAlliance said, “OmniActive’s opening today is the result of a directed effort to showcase the skills and opportunities available in PEI to the world. Through the efforts of all levels of government, academia and institutions like the NRC, OmniActive saw the value in setting up their first offshore research facility in PEI. These relationships are invalueable to building a strong bioscience community here in PEI.
